The USA National Pavilion organizers and The Dow Chemical Company announced that Dow has become an official sponsor of the USA Pavilion, exclusive in the Chemicals and Materials Sciences categories. Dow announced that it is committed to supporting the Shanghai World Expo in many ways -- offering sustainable products and solutions for the USA Pavilion and other Expo related projects, showcasing cutting-edge technologies in the USA Pavilion, and providing ongoing volunteer support to the Expo Exhibition Center.

“We're very proud to be a sponsor of the USA Pavilion, and contribute to the success of the Shanghai World Expo,” said Jim McIlvenny, Dow Senior Vice President. “The Shanghai World Expo and the USA Pavilion promote environmentally sustainable communities and the use of technology to improve people's lives which align with Dow's vision in, and commitment to, sustainable development in China and the world. Our strong business portfolio and our innovative approach to science & technology will continue to position us well to help achieve sustainable urban living in Shanghai, in China and around the world.Working together we will build a 'Better City, Better Life'.”

“We welcome this partnership with America's leading chemical company.Dow is not only a leader on sustainability but a champion of positive US-China relations,” said Ken Jarrett, Chairman of the USA National Pavilion Board of Directors. “The World Expo is a critical opportunity to showcase the best of the best, and multinationals like Dow exemplify a solid business and excellent corporate culture.”

“We are delighted to welcome Dow as a sponsor of the USA National Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai,” said Consul General Beatrice Camp, “The Shanghai Expo offers leading American companies such as Dow an opportunity to demonstrate environmentally friendly U.S. technologies and products to the 70 million visitors expected to attend from China and around the globe.”

A number of Dow solutions have already been chosen to support the building of Expo-related projects. DOWTHERM SR-1 heat transfer fluid was chosen as the air conditioning supplier for the Expo after a rigorous screening process, and will provide air conditioning for the Shanghai Expo Center, China Hall and Art Show Center, using advanced cold storage technology that reduces energy consumption by avoiding electricity use at peak consumption times.

Dow is also a lead sponsor and supplier to the Shanghai Eco-House, a unique zero energy consumption building which will be a highlight of the Shanghai World Expo. With the outstanding product performance of its roofing insulation boards - Styrofoam, Dow Building Solutions is the exclusive provider of roofing insulation products for the Shanghai Eco-House,Styrofoam was also recently appointed by the French Rhone-Alps Pavilion as the building's insulation material for roofing, basement wall and floor.

Aside from providing sustainable and innovative solutions to the Expo and USA Pavilion, Dow is also contributing one of the company's most precious resources – its people. Dow is the first company to provide volunteer support for the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center. Since last July, over 150 Dow employees have volunteered to serve at the Center as commentators, journalists and display maintenance focal points. Dow will continue and expand the service until the end of Oct 2010.

Dow is a proud supporter of China's world-scale events. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, technology from Dow Water Solutions enabled the wastewater reuse rate to increase from 15 percent to 50 percent, helping Beijing to achieve its “Green Olympic” goals.

On July 10th, 2009, the United States government signed the World Expo Shanghai 2010 Participation Agreement and the USA National Pavilion broke ground a week later at the Expo site. Within just 89 days, on October 14, 2009, the Pavilion held the “topping-off” ceremony for its steel structure on October 14, 2009. At over 60,000 square feet (6,000 square meters), the USA Pavilion will be one of the largest national pavilions at the Expo. With the theme of “Rise to the Challenge”, the USA Pavilion's design concept rests on four thematic pillars: Sustainability, Teamwork, Health, and the Chinese Community in America. It will showcase American culture, values, innovation and business in China's most dynamic city, while celebrating the friendship and cooperation between the U.S. and China.
