In yesteryears, the textile industry was dominated by a few textile groups, like the Lalbhai Group and the Mafatlals, who had set up their facilities on large swaths of what is now considered prime land in major cities of Gujarat.

But over a period of time many of the textile mills or related industries closed down due to various reasons, due to not being able to challenge the changed economic environment or more so due to skewed government policies.

Navin Fluorine Industries owned by the Arvind Mafatlal Group is one such company set up in 1967 in Bhestan, on the Udhana-Navsari Road,is a large industrial area in the textile hub of Surat. Navin Flourine which occupies a large tract of land has given away a part of it, for building industrial sheds.

An industrial estate which compromises of 1,500 sheds, each with an area of 150 sq. metres has been set up on 400,000 sq. metres of area, hived out from the land owned by Navin Fluorine, in which about 1,500 powerlooms are expected to be set up.

The availability of such a large tract of land for industrial purposes within the city limits could prove helpful for the industrial growth of this textile city as most of the new industrial units coming up, are being set up outside the city municipal limits.
