Fund under TUFS to help textile sector

The Government has released an amount of Rs.2576 crore under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) in respect of 12514 applications in the current financial year (upto 19.11.2009).This was stated by the Minister of State of Textiles, Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi in the Rajya Sabha, in a written reply to a question by Shri Tariq Anwar.

The Minister further informed the House that the Government constituted a Working Group on National Fibre Policy vide order dated 29th July 2009, initially comprising 41 members.The Working Group has now 72 members.

The Working Group in its meeting held on 07.9.2009 constituted 8 Sub-Groups to examine the issues relating to balanced growth of various fibres. None of the Sub-Groups finalized their report so far, the Minister added.
