MoT releases book on 'The International Jute Commodity System'

Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister of Textiles released a book titled ”The International Jute Commodity System” authored by Shri Chhabilendra Roul, in the presence of Shri Satyananda Mishra, Information Commissioner, Government of India.

The book is quite comprehensive with its focus on a wide range of issues pertaining to the jute agro-commodity system. The book provides a historical background and macro-economic analytical perspective on the Jute Commodity System. The volume offers stimulating reading for those interested in the dynamics of agricultural commodity system. The book is expected to sensitize various stakeholders including national governments, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations.

The book is a excellent reference book for post-graduate students in economics; jute and textiles management;development studies and agriculture and agro-marketing. The book reflects the blending of academic insight with administrative-experience of policy formulation, execution and evaluation.

The author Shri Chhabilendra Roul is an alumnus of Birmingham University, U.K; Delhi School of Economics and Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. He is an MBA and holds a Post Graduate Degree in Economics. Shri Roul, an IAS, is a Joint Secretary level official in Ministry of Power, Government of India. Prior to this, Shri Roul had served in Ministry of Textiles acquiring adequate domain knowledge in natural fibres like jute and cotton. He has been instrumental in formulation of National Jute Policy, 2005 and implementation of National Jute Technology Mission (2006-2011).

Also present on the occasion were Tmt. Rita Menon, Secretary(Textiles), Thiru S.B.Mahapatra, Ex. Secretary(Textiles), Thiru Satnam Singh, CMD, Power Finance Corporation and Thiru Pratap Vaish of Northern Book Centre, the publisher of the Book.
