In a bid to boost handicrafts, handloom and sericulture sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, the state government is exploring new markets in and outside the country.
The state should explore untapped areas of the country as well as markets in south-east Asia, central Asia, North America and Europe, in order to enhance economic status of these sectors, opined an expert.
In spite of the world-wide recognition, Kashmiri handicrafts need innovations in creations to overcome global challenges such as competitions from countries like Pakistan and Iran.
Artisans of the state have to be more innovative and should focus on quality control to boost the sectors. Moreover, unscrupulous elements that sell products made from Amritsar and Ludhiana under Kashmiri tag should be restricted to protect the identity of Kashmiri handicrafts.
