Spandex prices surge in Chinese markets

Manufacturers across China have raised prices of Spandex, by 1,000-2,000 Yuan per ton, beginning from December. Sihai Spandex has raised its price for general standard spandex by 1,000 Yuan per ton, from December 1, onwards.

Huahai Spandex has recently increased its price for various specifications by around 1000 Yuan per ton. Hualai Spandex has done so by around 1000-2000 Yuan per ton, which also has been implemented since December 1.

In addition, some manufacturers in East China have also recently increased their spandex prices for general specifications by 1000-2000 Yuan per ton in line with market and supply situation.

Capacity utilization of spandex industry improved in November, but on the other hand, operating rate of spandex consuming sectors was even better, which resulted in shortage of spandex in the markets.

Experts also aver that, increase in electricity costs could also be the reason for the hike, which was raised by 0.028 Yuan / kwh on November 20, which would mean an increase in manufacturing cost for spandex by 224.7 Yuan per ton.

The peak season for spandex beginning from March next year, is expected to take price of spandex to new levels and cautious estimates expect spandex price to touch around 55,000 Yuan per ton in 2010.
