World's first banana fibre plant begins operations

The world's first banana fibre factory is now fully operational. This factory located in Far North Queensland, turns banana plant trunks into wrappings, fibre board products and decorative veneers.

Papyrus Australia, an Adelaide based company developed the technology an has recently commissioned the plant and commenced production, though reaching desired and optimum output may take a few more months.

Speaking exclusively to fibre2fashion, Colin Wyllie, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Papyrus Australia Ltd said, “We are very focused on the new technology and all its applications while also believe there are many products which can use banana fibre as its base material.

“The first products we will be producing are decorative veneers and fibre board products as this is the market segment which aligns with our product value and production volumes on staring up this new operation”.
