It has been collectively decided, by the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab and NWFP in an emergency meeting, to support the move on opposing duty on the export of cotton yarn or against putting restriction by all means in order to defend industry's viability.
The meeting also resolved that the spinning industry, having $7 billion annual turnover, 10 million spindles and more than 1,000 ginning factories, is being endangered by certain vested interests. These groups are looking for uncalled intervention and are adamant to destroy the industry, which is the key link of the textile value chain and the 3rd largest spinning industry across the world.
It has been unanimously decided by all the members of APTMA Punjab and NWFP to protest, against any measure taken for quota imposition on yarn and any restriction on cotton export, in order to protect all the sectors. After December 30, 2009, the APTMA members, growers and workers will organize protest rallies jointly, if the government does not clarify its stance.
