Pune City to subsidise jute & paper bag production

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) intends to make the city free of plastic bags, completely. Pertaining to which, it has taken a decision to ban plastic bags in the city and decided to subsidize jute and plastic bags production to support the ban.
Mr. Anil Bhosale, a corporator informed that in a discussion with corporators, the standing committee Chairman Mr. Nilesh Nikam agreed to provide subsidy for jute and paper bags manufacturing. The subsidies will be offered especially to the small scale manufacturing groups for jute and paper bags manufacturing, he added.
Mr. Bhosle emphasized that as plastic bags has become a major problem in the city since past few years, the PMC has decided to get rid of it, which needs co-operation from citizens and environmental groups for its accomplishment, he added.
This decision will be executed after receiving state government's approval. The proposal to impose ban on plastic bags was initially moved in the month of May last year by the two corporators.
