Merino skirtings types were in strong demand, with prices rises on each day and a pass-in rate of 1.3%. Early gains in crossbred average MPGs ensured that these wools finished above last week's levels also. The increases in their average MPGs ranged from 2¢ at 30 microns to 11¢ at 26 microns. Oddments continued their upward movement with the average AWEX Merino Cardings MPG up by 17¢ (+2.7%).

Buyers for China were again dominant, followed by buyers for India and Taiwan and for Europe.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 50,205 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 32 and 33) are 47,300 and 50,530 bales, respectively; an increase of 3.5% over the three sale period when compared with last year.

In South African sales, the Cape Wools Indicator was up by 3.0% since last week against a 0.6% depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar and a 1.7% appreciation against the Euro. 15,696 bales were on offer.
