29th B2B handicraft fair kicks off

The spring 2010 edition of Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF), a four-day B2B event has opened at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida wherein over 2,100 Indian exhibitors with 900 permanent marts have brought their wide range of products on display.

Around 5,000 buyers from around the globe are marking their presence in the fair that had been inaugurated by the Minister of State for Textiles, Tmt. Panabaaka Lakshmi. The Minister asked handicrafts producers and exporters to look for new products and raw materials to gain a competitive stand in world market with their exclusive products.

Handicraft industry is imperative in terms of exports as well as in terms of offering jobs, and which provides employment to more than six million artisans, mainly coming from economically weaker sections of the society.

Products created from various eco-friendly raw materials are on focus in this 29th edition of B2B event, which has been organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

Products such as textiles made of natural fibres, artificial fibres, wool, silk, jute, coir, as well as products made of stone, leather, animal bye-products, terracotta, lacquer, wood, metal, cane and bamboo etc. are on display in the event.

The products showcased in the fair include variety of lifestyle products such as gifts, decorative items, utility items, furniture, furnishings, accessories, fitting and fixture, antiques, etc.
