The Union Textile Secretary, Ms Rita Menon, exhorted the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the textile sector to put more efforts in increasing their market shares and productivity. She was speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Northern India Textile Mill's Association (NITMA).

She advised the textile industry to devote more to decentralization and desegregation and that each and every SME that contributes to the development of textiles should find ways for increasing productivity and their market share.

She was of the opinion that the textile sector needs to look beyond focused markets and explore new markets other than the big cities. She observed that, states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa need to be explored.

She also advised the textile industry to take full advantage of the government policies and initiatives announced in the budget and appealed to NITMA to ensure that the fruits of the various policies reached the stake holders.
