Indian cotton exports to China still top the charts

As per Chinese Customs, in February of 2010, China's cotton imports from India reduced, but India was still the largest country of origin for cotton imports. Imports from the United States increased slightly, while those from Uzbekistan remained stable.

In February, imports from India totaled to 95,000 tons, a decline of 44.7 percent from the previous month, accounting for 43 percent of total imports. Imports from the United States stood at 59,000 tons, a growth of 15.1 percent from the previous month, accounting for 26.6 percent.

Imports from Uzbekistan were 27,000 tons, down 18.5 percent from the previous month and the share of other countries was less than 3 percent.

From the average import prices, import price of cotton from India stood at US $1645 per ton, up 1.7 percent from the previous month and the price of US cotton was $1909 per ton, still the highest, down 7.2 percent from the previous month.

The price from Mexico was $1698 per ton, up 6.9 percent from the previous month. The cotton import price stood in the African country of Malawi at $1489 per ton, the lowest in the month.
