On October 22, 2009, Monno Fabrics, a textile mill at Gilondo, Manikganj district, had declared temporary closure. The company is still idle due to lack of gas supply. Their supplier, state-run Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, had promised to supply gas through a separate pipeline, when the factory of Tk 5 billion faced production suspension a year ago.

Managing Director, Monno Group, Afroza Khan informs, “It is quite unaffordable to keep the factory of 2,500 workers closed for a long period, and recommencement of production depends on the gas supply ensured by Titas Gas. Negotiations are on with the government officials for an assured separate pipeline.”

Also struggling with severe gas crunch is Monno Ceramics, an industrial unit of the same group positioned at Dhamrai in Savar near Dhaka. Claims, Moynul Islam, Vice Chairman, Monno Group, “This inadequate supply of gas has forced factory workers to sit idle for nearly four to five hours each day.”

Although M Abdul Aziz Khan, Managing Director, Titas Gas, ensured cognizance of the issue, he stated his limitations to comment about the installation of a separate gas pipeline for Monno Fabrics.
