First Lady inaugurates national handicraft congress

A national congress of the National Handicraft Council (Dekranas) 2010 was officially inaugurated by the First Lady, Ani Bambang Yudhoyono.
The recently held congress themed 'Developing Creative Economic through Technology, Innovation, and Culture-based Handicraft Development' was organized in Jakarta at Smesco Building. Yudhoyono was accompanied by some higher authorities during the inaugural ceremony of the congress.
Dekranas is a non-profit and independent organization that was established in 1980, to develop and preserve culture and handicraft of the country as a cultural heritage. It was also formed to promote and market, handicraft products so as to boost people's economy.
According to Trade Minister, Mari Elka Pangestu, handicraft products are one of the key revenue generators contributing to the country's economy.
