The Maharashtra government has identified four acres of land in Dadar, Mumbai, for setting up a textile museum to showcase the history of textile industry in the city. Dadar was once a centre for textile industries, before the strikes in the early 1980s brought with it disaster for the industry.

According to an official from the textile industry, the plot is located within the Kohinoor Mills and that, it has been given away to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Although the state government will support the establishment of the centre by virtue of logistics, additional finances and historical data, it will be constructed solely by the BMC. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will also aid the BMC in setting up the project.

According to government officials, the project is yet in the planning stages and that, the Chief Engineer, Development Plan; Director, Engineering and special projects from the BMC will be working on the development plans.
