Trading of textile products at Erode has received a beating, especially over the last two months, as the ever-increasing rates of goods and yarn are adding on to the exporter's problems.
With the sudden rise in the cost of textile products, Erode's weekly market has also been affected. Normally, over Rs 30 million worth of textile products are traded, but in the last two months, sales have been very low.
As per textile traders, with the increase in yarn prices, cost of manufacturing has also increased, thereby, forcing them to sell goods at a higher price. Prices of all the textile products have flared up.
Owing to buyer's reluctance to purchase textile goods at higher rates, during the weekly retail and wholesale market this week, only about Rs 10 – 15 million worth of goods were sold, said traders.
