Mohini mills resurrects after 20-year halt

The oldest industry of the Kushtia district in Bangladesh, ‘Mohini Textile Mills’, which was closed since 20 years, has recently restarted its operations.

The government-owned industry, which was formerly inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Abdul Mannan, is renamed as Shah Makhdum Textile Mill. This name change was confirmed by Joynal Abedin, President of the mill.

The mill, will now be operated by People’s Development Services Corporation Limited (PDSCL), which is a private company.

More so, the mill, which is around hundred years-old was primarily established in the year 1908 by Mohini Mohan Chakravarti on an area of more than 33 acres. In the year 1971, it was acquired by the Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC).

Further, it witnessed production resumption, three years after experiencing a shut down in the year 1985. But, it again saw closure on Aug 15, 1990, due to increasing losses. But the current government, took efforts to resume operations of this mill after coming into power.
