Luther Myers wins AATCC TCR Service Award

At the Awards Luncheon at the Association's annual conference, AATCC honored Luther M. Myers with its Technical Committee on Research (TCR) Service Award in recognition for his outstanding service in test method development for the Association.
Myers has been a member of AATCC since 1950 and has volunteered on and chaired numerous technical committees, including RA59, Fibrous Test Materials; RA71, Hosiery Technology; RA8 (later RA63), Wettability Test Methods, and RA33, Colorfastness to Atmospheric Contaminants.
Myers is involved with ISO textile test method development and has attended ISO meetings as a spokesperson/delegate for AATCC representing the United States. He has also helped with the development of ASTM test methods. Myers is a member of American Home Appliance Manufactures (AHAM). He attended meetings on the Washing Machine “Energy Star” standards and received the 1999 “Supplier of the Year” Award.
Myers founded Textile Innovators in 1988 and was president until 2001 when the company was joined with SDL Atlas. He then served as a manager with SDL Atlas until 2009. In 2010, he became sole owner of a new company, Test Materials Consulting LLC. During his career, he developed the fabric swatches used in airports for explosive screening for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The TCR Service Award was established in 2008 to recognize members who have contributed greatly to the AATCC organization in a technical capacity. The award is presented each year at the International Conference to a senior member, with at least five years continuous membership in AATCC, who has contributed outstanding technical service to the Association throughout his activity in a research committee within the past five years. Selection is by unanimous choice of the TCR Service Award Committee, composed of the current chair, vice-chair, and secretary of TCR and current chair of the Executive Committee on Research (ECR). The Award consists of a plaque and monetary award.
