Sinopec ethylene plant no-2 posts record output

The yield of ethylene and propylene of the No. 2 ethylene plant under SPC's Olefins Division has stood out for four months in a row as the highest among Sinopec's five major ethylene plants, with the monthly output hitting the record high for two consecutive months.

To improve the yield of ethylene and propylene, all the propane produced at both old and new workshop of No. 2 olefin plant were used as the cracking feedstock with the light naphtha cracked separately in a bid to control the cracking depth precisely.

Special measures were taken to break the bottleneck in the production for an optimized operation. Apart from the optimization and adjustment of technical systems, a series of efforts were made to minimize the loss of ethylene and propylene, including strengthening the management over the flare gas, monitoring the emission, conducting flare gas sample analyses twice a week and timely suspending, repairing and changing leaking safety and control valves. All this contributed to the decline in the loss rate, which has been lower than the index value for several months.

Meanwhile, advanced technology was also adopted to optimize the operation of the plant and the improvement of the yield of ethylene and propylene. For instance, the SPYRO simulation software was used to optimize the operation condition of the cracking furnace in a view to making the best of the raw material of poor quality.

In 2010, the goal for the yield of ethylene and propylene of the No. 2 olefin plant is 46.3%. From January to April, the yield reached 46.67% on average. February even saw a yield of 46.97%.
