Chinese raw silk prices hit the ceiling

The price of silkworm silk has been rising crazily since April, and following trends set by cotton. The price has rallied all the way up from 180,000 Yuan per ton to 250,000 Yuan per ton; it recently has even climbed to a high of 300,000 Yuan per ton.
This flare-up of silk price has already affected silk garment enterprises and silk product market in Xiamen. Influenced by this, prices of silk products have quietly increased and at the same time many enterprises have significantly reduced consumption of pure silk fabrics.
Moreover, cocoon price is 20,000 Yuan / ton higher than silk. According to industry sources, most mid-end clothing brands have minimized their use of pure silk fabrics, except those high-end clothing brands that are not sensitive to raw material prices.
