The government of Mozambique has now become a member of the International Cotton Advisory Commission. On account of which, the country now has greater access into the international cotton market, said Victor Borges, the Council of Ministers' spokesman.
The current cotton production of Mozambique is over 80,000 tons. Major volume of this production is exported overseas, as the country's textile industry is very small which, cannot utilize the available amount of cotton.
Membership of the International Cotton Advisory Commission would help the country to receive essential information about markets and amenities to improve placement of their products in those markets, added Borges.
The membership aims to offer an access to the country into the commission's database, through which, Mozambique can gain information regarding cotton prices, about world trade, a database of techniques used in the international plan for production along with other relevant information, he said.
He further said that, with the access in the international community, cotton producers will find it easy to decide how to proceed in terms of domestic production and placing products in the market.
