FMC Wyoming Corporation announced on May 28 that, effective July 1, 2010, or as contract terms permit, it will increase off-list soda ash prices by $10.00 per ton for all grades of soda ash. The increase applies to both bulk and packaged products.
This has set the ball rolling for other soda ash producers in the US who might follow suit and raise prices as and when they sign and negotiate new contracts. However it is assumed that all US based soda ash producers may not increase prices as done by Wyoming.
2010 has been a good year for soda ash producers as most of them are running their plants at full capacity. Prices of soda ash had bottomed out in the Asian markets in 2009 and touched lows of $170-180 per ton, but now have recovered to $220-230 per ton in the Indian as well as Chinese markets.
