The Maharashtra state government has given a warning to the National Textile Corporation (NTC) that if it did not adhere to the promise of giving jobs to former mill workers in its refurbished mills, no new development would be allowed.
This was stated by Naseem Khan, state textiles minister who said that as per an agreement signed between the state and NTC, the latter had given an undertaking to provide jobs to former workers of the mill.
Khan said that he had received complaints from unions and labour representatives that none of the former workers had been provided jobs in the recently refurbished mills of NTC.
He also added by saying that NTC had also gone back on its word of providing 300 sq foot homes to around 2,000 former NTC mill workers living in chawls as part of a rehabilitation scheme.
