'We-Empowering Women' is the new name for SAARC Chamber Crafts Village sales outlet at Pulchowk, Lalitpur.
The outlet targets marketing and selling of goods and handicrafts crafted by women artisans and farmers from the eight SAARC member nations.
We-Empowering Women focuses on providing larger access in to markets, to the South Asian women artisans and farmers, with the hope to improve their and their family's lives.
Handloom bags from Afghanistan, shell jewellery from Maldives, India's beaded jewellery, wall hangings from Bhutan, Bangladesh's kantha –based bed covers, Pakistan's hand-embroidered carpets and natural fibre-based purses from Sri Lanka are the varied range of goods that will be available in the new outlet.
The Fair Trade Group from Nepal (FTG-Nepal), which is a cluster of 17 Nepali fair-trade associations, has just recently taken over and is managing the SAARC Chamber Crafts Village.
With an aim to improve the socio-economic status of the underprivileged and marginalized Nepali manufacturers, FTG-Nepal was established in 1993.
