US remains largest source of cotton imports in May

According to customs statistics, in May, among importing countries, the United States remained the largest source of China's cotton imports, India ranked second and Uzbekistan stood third.
In May, China imported 80,700 tons cotton from the United States, down 37.8 percent from April, accounting for 40.8 percent of total import volume.
Imports from India were 60,000 ton, a share of 30.4 percent and imports from Uzbekistan were 29,000 tons, less 43.5 percent from April, a share of 14.7 percent.
The average price of cotton imports from each country slightly increased in May. The average import price of US cotton was US $1,807 / ton, up 0.6 percent from April.
The average import price of Indian cotton was US $1,787/ ton, up 4.2 percent from the previous month; the average import price of Uzbek cotton was US $1729 / ton, up 1 percent.
The average import price of Australian cotton remained the highest at US $1846/ ton, up 1.8 percent from the previous month.
