Now it is not too long before khadi would be advertised under the trade name 'Dandi'. It is on the strategy list of the Gujarat State government to establish khadi production centres at Dandi, the place where Mahatma Gandhi contravened the Salt Act in the year 1930.
According to sources, Gujarat Vidyapeeth has been involved in this project to provide technical support, as also manpower. It has been decided to set up four looms in the first phase of the project. Khadi production in Dandi has been on a halt since 1948.
Dhirubhai Patel, a former student of Vidyapeeth, now a teacher at Dandi, marked the setting up of khadi production centres as an excellent idea, which would then serve as a source of employment for several Gandhians residing there.
Also, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth recently convened a meet with Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Chairman of the Dandi Memorial Committee to discuss on the project.
