Turkish Dominant Textile expands into the Northwest

Dominant Textile, a Turkish technical textile company that develops and manufactures a variety of industrial and weather/temperature resistant fabrics, is to open its first UK office in Manchester creating 10 jobs over the next five years.

The company, which was established in 2003, chose the Northwest to expand its international operations due to its strengths in the textiles sector and its strong scientific research base. It has taken office space at Peter House on Oxford Street in Manchester, following advice and guidance from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), particularly on suitable locations.

The NWDA also introduced the company to the technical textiles industry in the Northwest as well as highlighting the support available through Northwest Textnet, the cluster organisation responsible for supporting technical textiles in the region.

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA, said:
“Foreign Direct Investment is a crucial economic driver for the Northwest. The region secured 176 investment projects during 2008/09, creating or safeguarding over 11,000 jobs.

“The Agency's business expertise is a valuable resource for companies looking to invest in the region, and we have worked closely with Dominant Textile to support their move into the Northwest. With the region's strengths in the technical textiles industry, a regional growth sector, the Northwest is the ideal location for the company and I am pleased to welcome them to Manchester.”

Ayhan Imir, Financial Manager at Dominant Textile, said:
“The support from The NWDA and UKTI has been extremely helpful. It is very important for the UK to provide such useful information for companies like ourselves that are considering expanding abroad. We appreciated the assistance and support we were given by the NWDA and UKTI.”

UKTI is the Government department that helps overseas companies bring their high quality investment to the UK's economy. Clive Drinkwater, its International Trade Director in the North West, said: "The North West offers a world-class creative talent pool with expertise across a range of services. With its outstanding global connections and strong science base, the North West is the perfect location for Dominant Textile. The organisation's decision is proof that international companies which visit our region find we have much to offer in the way of talent, resources and location.”

"Events like the Shanghai Expo are also key to promoting the North West overseas and getting the message out there that the region is at the heart of tomorrow's industries and offering the best environment for companies to grow and realise their international business potential."
