As the farmers are procuring real rewarding costs for their yield, the total area under cotton cultivation in Gujarat, is believed to rise to around 2 lakh hectares by end of the year.

Experts opine that, as cotton cultivation is in its final stages, they are induced to anticipate that the cotton production in state would rise by around 10 percent this year as over the previous year.

The previous year, where the total area under cultivation of cotton in the State was 26.24 hectares, it is foreseen that this would rise to around 2 lakh hectares this year.

The State Agriculture Department data reveals that, by July 12, 2010, cotton cultivation had already taken place on about 16.298 lakh hectares of land in Gujarat.

Further that, where cotton sowing is completed in 60 percent regions of Saurashtra, the process is still on in a majority of the regions in North Gujarat.

Cotton sowing process in the State started in the first part of May owing to early monsoons and is expected to go on till the end of July. But inconsistent rains thereafter, have delayed the sowing process, which is still underway in many parts of Saurashtra.
