Next we asked her as to why they chose Palash flower for preparing the dye, to which she replied by saying, “In our NIT – Durgapur campus, there are lots of trees of Palash flower. Before that we were using different wasted flowers collected from the local market like marigold, china rose, butterfly pea etc. After that we had observed that there were lots of Palash flower available in our campus. These flowers were wasted everyday. So, we had decided to use these flowers for the extraction of dye”.

When asked as to how is the process of extraction of dye economically viable, she informed, “The cost for the production of dye is very less, since we are using the wasted materials. The production cost of the dye is very less and if we use it for making 'gulal' used at the time of 'Holi', the cost of the gulal is not more than the chemical gulal which are available in the market and have carcinogenic effect”.

We concluded this very informative interview by asking her to reveal the advantages of this dye, to which she replied by saying, “These type of natural dyes have several advantages such as; eco-friendly, cheap, does not have hazardous effect on human health, unsold or unused flowers can be used so we can get wealth from waste and finally after extraction, the rest of the materials can be used as fertilizers”.
