Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, recently while emphatically turning down the claims of 80 percent of cotton crop being fouled by leaf curl virus and pest attack, said that, the country would yield around 14 million bales of cotton during the season this year, which would be enough to source the needs of the textile industry.

The Minister made the above statement as he spoke to the Executive Committee of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), headed by its President, Malik Asrar Ahmed Awan.

Gondal divulged that, they have domestically developed nine different kinds of anti-virus that would be of help to boost the production of cotton. He further remarked that, Pakistan holds immense potential that it can outshine in the agriculture sector and develop itself into an exemplar.

He also informed that, Bt cotton, which has been recently launched in Pakistan by the government, should have actually entered the country a decade back.
