As of June, China's total imports of cotton registered 2.105 million tons in the 2009-10 cotton year, an increase of 900,000 tons, or 74.6 percent year on year.

The state increased 868,000 tons of cotton import quotas under sliding tariff on June 25, taking the amount of total released quotas up to 3.6 million tons this year, with the aim to ensure supplies and maintain stable operations.

Meanwhile, the state has intensified coordination arrangements for cotton shipment from Xinjiang. By the end of June, 2.8 million tons of Xinjiang cotton was shipped out from Xinjiang, an increase of 400,000 tons year on year.
