Last week, power loom workers brought an end to their strike after Divisional Commissioner, Tahir Hussain assured them that, their demand for a rise of 17 percent in their wages was notified by the Punjab government and that the same will be implemented by power loom owners of Faisalabad in both letter and spirit.

Workers of power loom firms were protesting against the owners since July 20, demanding a rise in their salaries.

Workers during their agitation had insisted for salary hike by 17 percent, which is now registered by the government. More so, they had also demanded that, their minimum pay be set at Rs 7000 as declared by the government.

Since July 20, workers were waiting for the Punjab government to notify their demands. But during the time taken by the government to formulate a decision, a standstill arose between the power loom owners and workers. Hence, the Divisional and district administration interfered to solve the problem.

On the basis of Hussain's directive, DCO Naseem Sadiq conducted discussions between members of both parties, but the meeting then, had came to an end without any conclusion, as both parties depended on the notification of the Punjab government.
