Kovai college to commence Textile Research Centre operations

The Union Department of Science and Technology (DST) have sponsored a full-fledged Textile Research Centre, which will soon start operations at the Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore.

DST had sanctioned funds amounting to Rs 37.6 million to KCT, six years ago and the so far, with the grant, KCT has set up the Advanced Manufacturing and Testing Laboratories.

Off late, DST released grant of Rs 4.6 million for the final phase, with the help of which the centre would turn completely operational and ready.

Lab Knitter with electronic tensioner, air'tronic permeability, lab model rotor spinning machine, electro spinning unit, sewability tester, plasma treatment machine, permi tester, pneumatic clamp for instron with additional jaw faces are few of the equipments that the research centre will comprise of.

All these equipments will be of great use to the academicians, researchers and industries in and around Coimbatore and Tirupur, the centre of textile activities.
