Orissa town to get cooperative ginning unit

A cotton ginning processing unit of cotton is to be set up in the cooperative sector at Digapahandi located in Ganjam district in South Orissa. The unit will come up with an investment of Rs. 12 million.

The Regulated Market Committee (RMC) officials divulged the above facts, after, Orissa's Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the market yard for cotton growers at Digapahandi.

The market yard established on an area of 6.15 hectares (15.19 acres), has been established by the Union Ministry of Textiles, vide its Technology Mission for Cotton (TMC).

The market yard is being developed at an investment of Rs 300,000. Of this, Rs 150,000 would flow from the TMC, while the rest is to come from the Rashtriya Krushi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) and RMC.

The Chief Minister while speaking at the inaugural ceremony said that, with the setting up of this market yard, it would now be easier for cotton growers in Ganjam district to sell their products.

The yard embraces within it, all the infrastructural facilities which include two godowns with individual storage capacity of 500 tonnes, covered shed, as also testing and training facilities for the cultivators.
