The Ministry of Finance has revealed that the cotton imports based on sliding tariffs have witnessed a good response as demonstrated by impact on the local cotton markets as well as the volumes of cotton imported under the said tariff structure.
To begin with, it has helped stabilize domestic cotton market. As per the China Cotton Association, the changes in cotton prices in recent years are lower than the level of volatility from 2003 to 2005.
Secondly, sales progress of domestically produced cotton is smooth and incomes of cotton farmers have increased. Data reveals that, average sales progress of cotton in recent years has been faster than sales progress from 2003 to 2005.
The sliding tariff policy meets demand from cotton textile industry and meanwhile it also provides textile enterprises with substantial policy concession.
