China imported 169,000 tons of cotton in July, 4.7 percent less than June, but up 28.5 percent year on year, according to customs statistics.
Import price continued to rise sharply. The average monthly price crossed the US $1900 / ton mark to reach $1,941 / ton, up $107 or 5.9 percent compared with June.
In the first seven months of 2010, China imported 1.714 million tons of cotton, up 97.7 percent year on year.
In the first 11 months of cotton year 2009-10, China imported 2.264 million tons of cotton in total, up 69.4 percent year on year.
