She's like a rainbow/color and fashion exhibition in Seoul

Rodin Gallery in Seoul will be the home to the works of many best-known names in international fashion world through Jan. 27.
This exhibition, titled “She's like a rainbow/Color and Fashion”, is to celebrate the 10th anniversary on Samsung Art & design institute, organized jointly by the institute and The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. 50 pieces by 35 designers including works by 5 Korean designers are on display here.
The main objective is to show the meaning of colors and their evolution through time. The eight colors of white, red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple and black that are featured in the show range from early 19th century pieces to present day works. For example, many of the orange pieces are from the '60s and the '70s - the decades when the bright color was in vogue - but there are other periods, too, represented by the color orange.
According to Steele the highlight of the show was the purple dress by Ralph Rucci, the first American designer to present under his own name at the Paris Haute Couture, and a pagoda suit by Charles James. Steele a well -known critic and author of fashion books like “China Chic: East meets West”, considers Jean Yu among her favorites.
She believes that Asian designers have great potential but needs even more individual talent to make it to the international scene. Government can have a huge influence on the fashion industry like the French have been doing for 400 years. It is absolutely necessary for Korean designers to show at Paris. She considers Brazilians and Koreans as two emerging groups in Paris.
