Peruvian textile exports to Brazil for the first half of the year rose by 109 percent at US $25.1 million, as over corresponding period last year, as reported by the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL).

Peru mainly exports blouses, men's shirts, women and men t-shirts as well as baby and kids clothes, to Brazil. Peru, with a market share of 5.4 percent and growth rate of 109 percent, has turned out to be the largest exporter of textile products to Brazil. Also, Peru is a major supplier of acrylic fibre and yarn to Brazilian market.

The positive trend in exports from the Peruvian textile sector is mainly owed to the amendment to the Mercosur agreement, whereby Brazil provided duty-free status to Peruvian goods.

As stated by the Center of Foreign Trade (CCEX) of the Lima's Chamber of Commerce (CCL), industrialists from Peru have discovered an appealing market in Brazil. There are over 190 million consumers in Brazil, all of whose textile requirements are not meet with by the domestic companies and as such the country needs to import.
