Govt to send team to seek market access

Pakistan will not plead for market access to US and EU markets as now it actually qualifies for the same, the government said. Further that, floods have wrecked the infrastructure in many parts of the country and that's why free market access to US and EU markets should be granted to Pakistan.

Also that, it would shortly send a delegation to US, EU and Canada to press their case for market access, the Ministry said.

US and EU, while bearing in mind the vanguard role that Pakistan played to curb terrorism rather on their own should grant market access to the country's textile industry, the government said and added that the enormity of the damage caused by floods is even more than the one caused by Tsunami in Sri Lanka or earthquake in Haiti.

The government however clarified that, the floods have not affected anything beyond 10 percent of the standing cotton crops and that it was wrongly quoted that over 40 percent of the cotton crop is feared to have been affected by the floods.

The government had also taken note of the proposal put forth by APTMA, to seek and source two million bales of cotton from the US government under the USAID programme.
