On August 22, 2010, state-run Crescent Jute Mills (CJM) and Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills (PJJM) located in the Khalishpur industrial belt, have started reinstating their retrenched workers.

Begum Mannujan Sufian, State Minister for Labour and Employment recently inaugurated the reinstatement programmes at two different functions organized at the two jute mills.

As stated by the Project Director of Crescent Jute Mills, Mujibar Rahman Mallick, 10 of the 1298 workers of the mill who were retrenched have already been given back their jobs. Also he said that, even the other workers who have been retrenched will get back their jobs in phases.

While, Md Jashimuddin, Project Director of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills informed that, 520 of the retrenched workers have been reinstated and rest of the workers too will be reinstated in phases.

Also where CJM has a minimum production capacity of four tons each hour, PJJM churns out three tons of jute goods per hour. CJM used to employ about 8,000 permanent and casual workers, whereas PJJM had over 6,000 permanent as well as casual workers.
