Import & export of polyester fiber surges in 2010

The trends in the domestic textile market have improved since the first and second quarter of 2010, due to which demand for chemical fibre products has increased. In the first five months of 2010, chemical fiber imports registered 365,900, up 10.87 percent year on year, of which polyester filament imports reached 61,600 tons, an increase of 1.91 percent, year on year.

Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia are still the main countries from which China imports a major proportion of the fiber, the proportion which is 58.1 percent, 18.4 percent, 4.0 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively.

From January to May 2010, chemical fiber exports touched 792,300 tons, up 50.21 percent year on year, of which, polyester filament exports realized 365,400 tons, up 52.61 percent year on year, accounting for 46.12 percent of total chemical fiber exports.

In raw materials sector, from January to May, imports of main synthetic fiber raw materials totaled 6.669 million tons, up 11.62 percent year on year; the average price of imports grew by 62.46 percent.

Imports of terephthalic acid scored 2.7184 million tons, up 4.93 percent year on year and that of ethylene glycol represented 2.8523 million tons, up 18.93 percent year on year.
