Azam Mohammed, Pakistan Consul General in Sydney, Australia, recently said that Australia was a promising market, and appealed to the exporters in Pakistan to explore these markets by diversifying their product range.
While discussing in this regard with President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), during his visit to Chamber headquarters in Pakistan, he said that, Pakistan exported limited items to Australia like bed linen & towel, as also rice, sports goods, surgical instruments, furniture and footwear, which makes Pakistan's contribution to Australia's overall imports negligible.
In order to draw better results, what is very much required is that, they focus on exporting non-conventional and diversified items to Australia, he said and added that, Australia has cut down its import duty on Pakistani textile items to 10 percent from 17.5 percent and this has even been lowered to five percent for some of the products. This serves as an added enticement for Pakistani exporters to boost their efforts to increase exports to Australia, he said.
Azam suggested that, organizing single country trade fairs in Australia, displaying only Pakistani products would be a feasible option to draw enhanced attention of importers from Australia. He also added that, the Pakistani exporters going to Australia should go there well equipped with their products, brochures and samples.
