According to a top apex cotton body, the loss to the cotton crop in the two major cotton producing provinces of Punjab and Sindh, due to the devastating floods could amount to around Rs 75 billion.
According to a top office bearer of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA), the cotton crop accounts for around 30 percent loss, incurred by all the crops put together.
Out of the 3.4 million hectares on which cotton had been cultivated, nearly 600,000 hectares of the same had been destroyed by the floods, said the official.
In volume terms, the loss is to the tune of 2.5 million bales against a projected production of 12.5 million bales and targeted output of 14.5 million bales.
