It is believed that, as an investment worth R1.85-million flows in to shearing infrastructure, this would push the wool production in the Eastern Cape areas. Sorting tables, wool presses, bins and scales, all together will constitute the shearing infrastructure.
The project financed by the South African Wool Trust means to help the wool producers in the Eastern Cape so that they can deliver wool in accordance with the market demand and reap better prices for the same and thereby raise their earnings.
Enterprises in these areas, now are contemplating to develop shearing sheds which can also serve the purpose as training centres.
The industry has also floated a long term project focusing on improving the genetic base of communal sheep flocks to derive better quality wool. All in all, 76 communal shearing sheds across the area would advantage from this project.
