According to the New Zealand Wool Services International Ltd, the coarse wool used for carpet making showed a significant increase in sales, whereas the apparel wool dipped at the wool sale.
Out of 13,000 bales of wool, about 96.3 percent were sold at a joint wool sale of North and South Island.
There was a hike in the prices of fine crossbred fleece and shears by between two to five percent, whereas the coarser crossbred types used for carpet making showed a rise by between 4 to 11 percent.
The prices of oddments increased by between two to five percent and that of the special types up to 15 percent.
Currently, wool trading is controlled mainly by Australasia, India, China and Middle East regions. The market experiences tough competition and avid bidding from them. Buyers from Asia, Western Europe and the United Kingdom also contributed in sustaining the trade.
