Nan Ya Plastics operates four Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) plants at Mailiao in Taiwan, of which one of the MEG plants has been shut down by the company.

The reason for the shutdown of plant number-1 as informed to fibre2fashion by a company official is the shortage of ethylene in the markets.

The number - 1, number -2 and number -3 MEG plants, have a production capacity of 350,000 tons per annum, each, while plant number - 4 has a nameplate output of 800,000 tons per year.

The official added by saying that, the shutdown will remain in force for a period of two months and if they still face more shortages of ethylene, they may close down one more production line in future.

The official concluded by saying that, currently, the other three MEG plants are operating at full capacity rates.
