A company based in UK is manufacturing environment friendly woolen coffins made of thick felt from British fleeces spread over recycled frame of cardboard, with a lining of cotton, polythene and jute edging.
Prince Charles, who was impressed by these coffins, last year, offered his support for this biodegradable box, priced between £600 to 700. This woolen coffin, which is suitable for burials and cremations, is a novel product in the world.
Around 500 low-carbon-footprint coffins in dark brown and natural white colours have been sold by a 225-year-old textile mill in Leeds, called 'Hainsworth', since June 2009.
Usually, British wool is used to manufacture carpets, but due to some ongoing issues in domestic market, the wool is witnessing, less demand, impacting wool breeders adversely, due to which Prince Charles has offered them support.
