According to a powerful cotton body, the Central Government and the Textile Ministry above all, was under pressure of a powerful textile lobby.
A member of the body said that, the Ministry is functioning under dominance of the lobby. India now produces better quality cotton which meets the world standards and thus is acceptable by the markets abroad, he added.
He further divulged that, last year, whereas cotton farmers received a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 3,000 per quintal, this year MSCMF has forwarded a request to the government raise it to Rs. 3,500 per quintal.
Though, adverse weather conditions have significantly brought down the cotton production in China, Pakistan and USA, but with apt rains this year, India is believed to reap really good produce, he said.
Also, use of Bt cotton has helped boost the cotton produce in a big way and now, India is in a position, that it can export its cotton to overseas countries and this has been made possible owing to the Union Government's Technology Mission in Cotton (TMC), he added.
