US carpet sector addresses challenges of sustainability efficiently

The carpet and floor covering industries in US address environmental and sustainable manufacturing challenges more efficiently and progressively, and the opportunities that can be gained through these practices can be applied to the domestic manufacturing sectors, stated Mr. Ronald K. Lorentzen, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Import Administration.
He was explaining, the significance of implementing sustainable manufacturing best practices in improving industry competitiveness and creating a even more better environment for job growth, during a Sustainable American Regional Tour (SMART).
Mr. Lorentzen together with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of IA for textiles and apparel Ms. Kim Glas, underlined the Sustainable Manufacturing Initiative taken by the Department of Commerce. He also informed about the resources allocated by the Federal Government in a bid to deal with the issues regarding increasing competitiveness through sustainability.
Participants took part in a round table discussion on sustainable business practices, after touring domestic manufacturing facilities. In order to develop sustainability, the US carpet mills have made over $400 million investment in new technology, informed the Carpet and Rugs Institute.
